Today I want to reinforce some important messages that will help you protect yourself.

This message is not just intended for our clinical staff – it applies equally to our support staff such as ward clerks, IT staff, finance teams – every single staff member.

You have my personal support to encourage others, including workmates, your manager or a senior colleague, to keep their physical distance from each other and from you, throughout Western Health. We all need at least 1.5 metres between us. If having a conversation and someone is too close, don’t be afraid to step back to give you that separation.

If someone else has been at the desk before you or has touched that desk, feel free to wipe it down and before starting work at a shared workstation, wipe down the keyboard, mouse, phone and the chair.

If you are in a shared office, think creatively about how to make sure you have four square metres of space around youA and adjust things if you need to.

If you are in a lift and more people get in, step out if that makes you more comfortable – I did this myself today.

Western Health provides a critical service to the state and our community at this time. Without you, we cannot deliver these services. So please feel free to implement your ideas in your local work areas to create the physical distance to help keep you safe.

You have my full support to take these measures. Thank you and best wishes.

Russell
