Visiting priests and clergy

March 25, 2020

A reminder that, at this stage, priests and clergy may only be called in to visit Western Health patients who fulfil the following criteria:

  1. Inpatients on Sunshine Hospital Inpatient Palliative Care Unit or Sunshine Hospital Ward 2E   AND
  2. Require Last Rites and/ or Confession.

Unfortunately, these criteria do not apply to palliative care and oncology outliers, or those wards other than SH IPPC and 2E.

Patients who are located at other Western Health sites, or on wards other than SH IPPC or 2E  may receive general pastoral support and blessings from members of the Pastoral Team if required, or families might be encouraged to call their own priests, who may agree to offer support over the phone, or via FaceTime/Zoom/Skype/WhatsApp.

We do understand how hard this is for patients, families, the staff who support them, and the priests themselves, who are distressed not to be able to offer in-person sacramental support, but we ask for your co-operation.

Please note Palliative Care’s current visiting hours are 8am – 10pm.
